There’s only one race remaining of the 2023 Trackday Championship season! Perhaps part of the reason why this season has seemingly flown by is the incredible excitement we have been treated to on circuit, from an epic season opener at Silverstone to a gripping penultimate round at Oulton Park and everything in-between.
Focus now firmly shifts to the 2023 Trackday Championship season finale, on the fast and furious Brands Hatch Indy circuit at the end of October (28th). Ahead of the finale, Trackday Championship will be releasing a series of articles looking back at how each of the three classes have unfolded so far this year and which teams/drivers are in the hunt for class championship glory!
Up first, we focus on the current Class D championship standings…
Following the precedent set in previous years, Class D has continued to prove highly-competitive and a difficult class to best. We’ve enjoyed watching four different winners from five races in 2023, meaning only one team has managed the top step of the class podium twice this year (Fiesta Clubracer). Heading into the final round, a great number of cars have the opportunity to finish in the top three of the classes championship standings, with two teams set to go head to head for the honors of becoming our 2023 Trackday Championship Class D champions!
Without dropscores considered, just 14 points separate current leaders Scuderia Dave from Fiesta Clubracer at the head of the standings. Both teams have performed incredibly well throughout the season and have enjoyed some exceptional performances. Consistency has been key for current class-toppers Scuderia Dave, who only experienced their first class win of the season last time out at Oulton Park. However, an impressive four class podiums over the course of the year for Dave Connell has put the MX-5 team in prime position for the championship. Mind you, Fiesta Clubracer’s pairing of Wright/Glover will be doing all they can to prevent that from happening. The team have been extremely successful in the championship over the years and will be looking for another trademark drive to try and secure their third title in as many years.
Outside of the top two, there’s plenty more excitement to be had. Driven Motorsport’s Jon Dundee will be hoping to round out his season in style to consolidate his current third-place in the championship standings, while there are plenty of other competitors who will be looking to take that accolade for themselves at the final hurdle. Just two points separate BC Cars Motorsport teammates Alister Esam and Colin Wells, with the pair in turn leading NJM Racing’s David Evans by just a single point! How will the trio of cars finish their seasons? Will the two only other teams that have picked up victory in Class D this season, KEW Technology and Miller Motorsport, find their way back to the top steps?
Only one things for sure, we cannot wait to see how this class championship concludes!
