And just like that, we’ve arrived at the penultimate round of the 2023 Trackday Championship (TDC) season! With all of the fantastic entertainment we’ve witnessed on track, this year has sailed by. From Silverstone to Anglesey, Snetterton to Brands Hatch GP, TDC has had it all. Across the three classes, sensational overtakes, fabulous defending and tense final laps have all played their part in making this a great year for Trackday Championship… and there’s still two races left!
On August 12, Oulton Park returns to the calendar following a one year absence. The Cheshire circuit is a much-loved venue for many in the paddock and so expectations of an epic race are high. Given the potential significance this round could have on the final class championship standings, this anticipation only grows stronger.
As things stand, and without drop scores considered, just nine points separate the top three in the overall championship! Unique Racing #89’s Adrian Pottinger leads the way, five points clear of Steve Summers in third (Datum Motorsport #3) and nine in front of current class C championship leader Stewart Donovan (Se7en Motorsports #112). To highlight just how competitive this year has been for the championship, just eight points separate the top two in class D too! How will each of the class standings look after a thrilling pit-stop race in Cheshire?
One thing we do know, the race at Oulton Park has all the ingredients to be a classic. The circuit’s International configuration lends itself perfectly to competitive racing, with it’s undulating curves through the picturesque countryside providing equal measure of beauty and challenge. There are the two tricky chicanes of Britten’s and Hislops to contend with, along with the banked Shell Oils corner. Competitors will need to push both themselves and their car to the limit to maximise their points haul, while being well aware of Oulton Park’s often unforgiving nature.
Last time out, Trackday Championship duked it out on the phenomenal Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit as part of the new-for-2023 Super Touring Power event. John LaMaster triumphed overall on the day, being joined on the podium by current championship leader Adrian Pottinger and 2022 Champion John Lyne. Stewart Donovan continued his excellent vein of form by winning class C and Miller/Langridge took home their first TDC trophy of the year by topping class D.
