Our Cadwell Park Report...

24 May 2022

Cadwell Park welcomed Trackday Championship for the first ever time on the 21st May, hosting the second round of TDC 2022. After an exciting season opener at Silverstone in April, there was a palpable excitement in the air ahead of Saturday’s qualifying and race.

At qualifying start, it was Apple Car Centre who laid down the early benchmark time, but provisional pole quickly shifted hands to Team Air Supply. Team Air Supply, comprised of father and son duo George and Jack Wright, set two blistering laps back-to-back to control the session. Their impressive 1:41:006secs lap time couldn’t be bested for the remainder of the qualifying and secured the teams maiden pole of 2022 - having narrowly missed out on the front of the grid last time out. McKee Motorsport replicated Team Air Supply by bettering their second on the grid in Silverstone, to take pole position in Class C at Cadwell. Incredibly, Fiesta_Clubracer then managed the exact same feat in Class D – meaning all three teams who qualified second in class at round one of TDC started on class pole at round two!

The competitiveness of TDC in 2022 was again clearly apparent, as championship leader John Lyne (Tylah Motorsport #71) could only manage seventh of the grid.

As the lights went out to signal the start of the race, Team Air Supply capitalized on their strong qualifying pace to build a lead to the cars behind, however their afternoon would be cut short through mechanical failure causing retirement. With the race victory seemingly opening up for a number of competitors, close battles between the leading pack ensued around the undulating, winding Lincolnshire circuit.

Apple Car Centre and Team Norfolk had both displayed strong performances throughout the round and they were rewarded with second and third in Class B respectively, but the top step of the Class B podium belonged to Tylah Motorsport #71. Having started the race in seventh, John Lyne displayed some fantastic overtakes throughout the race to secure back-to-back wins for Tylah Motorsport.

Abbitt Motorsport went one better than their Silverstone result by securing victory in Class C, putting in a sterling drive in the process. LWD Racing rose from qualifying fifth in class to take the second step of the Class C podium, narrowly edging Unique Racing #98 by just 0.888secs!

Class D’s Cadwell Park visit belonged to Fiesta_Clubracer, who despite a number of impressive performances in the class, managed to secure the race win to add to their pole earlier in the day. Coupes & Convertibles Racing added to their Class D victory last time out with a 2nd in round two, while Greenstar Racing replicated their Silverstone result by finishing 3rd.

A huge congratulations to all our class winners and podium finishers!

Round three of Trackday Championship will be hosted by another new circuit for TDC, Anglesey, in just a couple of weeks time. See you there!
