Snetterton Race Report

06 July 2022

Snetterton sunshine welcomed the fourth round of Trackday Championship in 2022. The Norfolk circuit has become a stalwart in the calendar, having hosted a number of classic races over the years. As race day dawned, there was high hope that this year would be no different.

Unique Racing #89 were victorious last time out at Anglesey and Adrian Pottinger put himself in the best position possible to replicate the success at Snetterton, by securing Class B pole position. Pottinger had to fend off close competition to claim pole, with less than one second separating the top three’s fastest lap times. Team Norfolk’s Kevin Sterling and Apple Car Centre’s Jordan Honeybone both put in impressive qualifying performances to start second and third in class respectively. It was even closer in Class C, with less than 0.750secs between polesitter Unique Racing #98 and third in class Abbitt Motorsport. McKee Motorsport’s pairing of McKee/Dowsett split the two, qualifying second in Class C. Current TDC Class D point-leaders Fiesta_ClubRacer continued their impressive 2022 by securing class pole, ahead of Coupes & Convertibles Racing and Driven Motorsport .

After an action-packed race, spectators were treated to one of the most spectacular Trackday Championship finishes of all time. Having qualified fourth in class, current overall TDC points-leader John Lyne (Tylah Motorsport #71) had put in a excellent drive to lead Apple Car Centre’s Jordan Honeybone onto the final lap in Class B. As the last lap progressed Honeybone continued to close on Lyne, culminating in the pair exiting the final corner of the race almost side by side. After an exhilarating race to the line, Tylah Motorsport claimed the victory by just 0.051secs to extend his championship lead. Fantastic driving by both! Class B polesitter Unique Racing #89 rounded out the class podium, finishing ahead of Team Norfolk and JB Motorsport.

Having started fifth in class, a strong Mangoes Racing performance secured the top step of the Class C podium, finishing just over a second ahead of McKee Motorsport’s BMW E36 328i. LWD Racing rounded out the Class C podium, earning their second trophy of the season in the process. Pro-AM Racing and AMS Racing completed the top five in class.

Another strong race performance from Fiesta_ClubRacer secured a Class D grand slam for driver pairing Wright/Glover, who added both class fastest lap and race victory to their morning’s pole position. Coupes & Convertibles Racing followed up on their qualifying result by taking the second step on the D podium, being joined by Boreham Motorsport’s Reece Warrick – who put in a sterling drive from fifth in qualifying. Colin Wells took fourth, finishing 19th on the road.

We’re now over halfway through the 2022 championship and, with the class points standings as close as they currently are, there’s plenty of reasons to get excited for round five at the prestigious Brands Hatch GP circuit!
