Round Seven Race Report

21 November 2022

The 2022 Trackday Championship season finale took place on November 19th 2022. Brands Hatch’s Indy circuit played host to a bustling 30-strong grid, all trying to end their season in the strongest possible way.

Unique Racing #89 were pushing hard to finish in the top three in the overall standings and got their weekend off to the best possible start, as Adrian Pottinger mustered an impressive 57.109secs to claim class B pole position. Championship leader Tylah Motorsport #71 qualified second in class B, ahead of Freddy Hewitt and Apple Car Centre. Team KAR produced a stunning time in class C, securing class pole by a decent margin ahead of nearest rival Harry Hardy (Supatune Motorsport) and the sister Unique Racing car of Charlie Palk. Strong pace secured class D pole for Ronan Quinn Racing, ahead of Wil Arif and Greenstar Racing.

An exceptional launch for John Lyne (Tylah Motorsport #71) meant the BMW driver took an early lead in the race, with Unique Racing #89 slipping to second. Team KAR expertly managed their race start to remain third overall and a few places clear of their nearest challenger in class C, while Greenstar Racing nailed the opening exchanges to take the lead of class D. Out front, Unique Racing #89 continued to hound class B leader Tylah Motorsport #71, but to no avail – John Lyne topped off a championship winning year with class victory in the final round! The second place for Unique Racing #89 meant the team missed out on the top three in the overall standings by just a single point, but Pottinger shouldn’t be disheartened after an excellent race performance. The final spot on the Class B podium went the way of Apple Car Centre, in turn securing second in the overall standings for Jordan Honeybone and his Renault Clio. Congratulations to all.

After the strong race start, Team KAR continued to pave the way in class C. The pairing of Roberts/Marsh continued to pull out a gap at the front of the class and, other than a short period around the pitstop window, lead every lap on their way to a fabulous class win. Unique Racing #98 has been an ever-present on the class C podiums this year and driver Palk’s second-in-class finish at the final round ensured the team would finish second in the C championship. Mangoes Racing took the final step on the C podium, ahead of LWD Racing in fourth. This was set to be LWD Racing’s final race and Gary Littlewood put in a strong performance to mark the occasion.

Ronan Quinn ended the 2022 season in style, taking pole position, fastest lap and race win in class D. While it may seem the win was clearcut, the reality was that class D produced an enthralling race and Ronan had to push exceptionally hard to take the top step. The result ensured the Fiesta driver would finish the season third in the class D championship standings, one place ahead of Greenstar Racing who finished second in class D on the day. Wil Arif finished third in class D, meaning that it was a trio of Ford Fiestas on the class podium at Brands Hatch.
